The Post has reached out to both Neeson and Anderson for comment.

The original film, written and directed by Jerry Zucker, Jim Abrahams and David Zucker, was based on the short-lived series “Police Squad,” which aired for six episodes in the 1980s.

Leslie Nielsen, who died at the age of 84, originated the role of Drebin while starring opposite Priscilla Presley.

It is currently unclear who will fill the role of Drebin’s partner Norberg, who the late OJ Simpson portrayed.

Akiva Schaffer will helm Paramount Picture’s untitled remake with a script written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.

The trio previously collaborated on the Emmy-winning Disney+ movie “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.”

Anderson is no stranger when it comes to making remakes, having starred in the 2017 film version of “Baywatch” as C.J. Parker — the character she portrayed for 110 episodes in the 1989 drama series —alongside Zach Efron, Dwayne Johnson, and Alexandra Daddario. Getty Images

Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins will also be producing the film through their company Fuzzy Door.

Several X (formerly Twitter) users took to the social media platform about the development.

“Anyone who says this sounds like a bad idea clearly doesn’t know a recipe for success when they see one,” a user touted. “I am all for this movie already.”

“This is going to be a masterpiece,” said a second person.

“Honestly so down for this,” a third person declared. “Priscilla Presley gives one of my all-time favorite comedy performances in the original film, and the Liam Neeson-Pamela Anderson duo sounds so crazy that it just might work!”

Anderson was thrown back into the spotlight in 2022 with Hulu’s mini-series “Pam & Tommy,” which focused on her tumultuous relationship with Tommy Lee and the subsequent sex tape scandal.

Anderson later issued a rebuttal to the show — which starred Lily James and Sebastian Stan — in the form of the Netflix doc, ” Pamela, A Love Story.”
